Elkwater Colony

Founded in 1979 as a division from Spring Creek Colony, Elkwater Colony has spent over four decades building a thriving agricultural community near the scenic Elkwater region of Alberta, combining traditional Dariusleut values with cutting-edge farming technology. Located on Township Road 100 and Range Road 22 near Irvine, we've established ourselves as leaders in modern dairy farming, utilizing GEA milking robots and advanced automated systems that significantly reduce labor demands while enhancing efficiency and providing valuable data on milk production and animal health. Under the guidance of dairy managers Nathan and Ted, we've partnered with Lethbridge Dairy Mart to equip our operations with reliable manure systems and state-of-the-art dairy technology that ensures optimal animal comfort and productivity year-round. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond farming to include comprehensive education, where our school children learn in both English and German, reflecting our dedication to preserving cultural heritage while preparing the next generation for modern challenges. As a testament to our success and growth, we've established Murray Lake Colony as our daughter colony, continuing the cycle of Hutterite community expansion and sharing our knowledge and experience with new generations of farmers. We welcome visitors, including educational tours that showcase how traditional Hutterite values seamlessly integrate with modern agricultural innovation.
