About Enchant Colony
Enchant Colony is located near the hamlet of Enchant in the MD of Taber, a region known for its irrigated farmland, abundant sunshine, and long growing season. Founded in 1989, the colony has grown alongside the broader irrigation network and water infrastructure that supports farms and rural hamlets such as Enchant, Hays, and Grassy Lake.
The MD of Taber is one of Canada’s most agriculturally diverse districts, with a mix of irrigated and dryland acres producing crops like sugar beets, potatoes, onions, canola and mustard, cereals, corn, beans, peas, and forages, as well as livestock including hogs, beef cattle, sheep, and poultry. Enchant Colony fits into this landscape as a mixed farming operation that relies on irrigation and modern farm practices while maintaining the careful land stewardship typical of colonies in the area.
Like other Hutterite communities, Enchant Colony is organized around communal living: families share work, resources, and daily meals, with members contributing in the fields, barns, shops, and kitchens rather than being paid individual wages. This cooperative structure supports efficient large‑scale agriculture and also enables the colony to offer fresh, carefully produced goods to surrounding communities through platforms such as Hutterite Marketplace, which highlights Enchant Colony as a source of curated fresh produce and goods.
