Fairlane Colony

Fairlane Colony is a Hutterite community in southern Alberta’s County of Warner No. 5, just outside the hamlet of Skiff. Set amid open prairie farmland, the colony operates in one of Alberta’s key dryland grain and livestock regions, where agriculture anchors both the landscape and the local economy.

Farming is central to life at Fairlane. Public references describe it as a rural agricultural community whose members are actively engaged in large-scale crop production. Over the past decade, the colony has invested heavily in grain-handling infrastructure, including an extensive yard of Sukup flat-bottom storage bins. A supplier profile notes multiple 4809 and 4209 bins upgraded with inner roof and sidewall wind rings to handle the strong winds common across southern Alberta, allowing Fairlane to store and manage significant grain volumes while protecting quality from harvest to shipment.

Fairlane also plays a role in Alberta’s egg sector through its commercial layer and pullet barns. Industry references highlight an 18,000-bird conventional layer barn and pullet capacity on site, illustrating a diversified operation that pairs grain farming with poultry production. This combination supports stable, year-round work and multiple revenue streams for the community.

Like other Hutterite colonies, Fairlane is organized around communal living, shared work, and faith-based values that emphasize cooperation, stewardship, and self-sufficiency. By blending traditional community structures with state-of-the-art farm equipment and infrastructure, Fairlane contributes consistently to regional food and commodity supply while maintaining a simple, disciplined way of life on the prairie.
