Grass River Colony

Established in 1974 as part of the Schmiedeleut branch, Grass River Colony exemplifies the Hutterite spirit of shared labor and mutual support. Located on fertile lands northwest of Glenella, Manitoba, our community of approximately 140 members works together across multiple enterprises to ensure economic resilience and environmental stewardship.

Our core activities include cattle ranching and dairy farming, where we prioritize animal welfare and modern husbandry practices to produce high-quality meat and milk. Complementing livestock operations, we manage extensive oilseed and grain fields, growing crops like canola, flax, and barley. Our poultry and egg production facilities adhere to rigorous food-safety standards, delivering fresh eggs to local markets.

Beyond animal and crop farming, Grass River Colony diversifies through greenhouse and floriculture production, forest nurseries, and support services for other agricultural producers. These varied operations leverage the unique skills within our community, enabling us to innovate while upholding time-honored Hutterite values of cooperation, hard work, and respect for the land.
