Hutterville Colony

Founded in 1932 as a relocation from Rockport Hutterite Colony in Alexandria, South Dakota, Hutterville Colony has spent over nine decades building one of Alberta's most established and successful Lehrerleut communities near Magrath. Under the dedicated leadership of Manager Peter Waldner and Minister Mike Wurz, our colony represents the best of traditional Hutterite values combined with modern agricultural innovation, having grown from 147 souls with 70 baptized members in 1947 to a thriving community that has successfully established three daughter colonies. Our agricultural success is built on the fundamental Hutterite principles of diversified mixed farming, including dairy operations, beef cattle, poultry, hogs, and extensive crop production that takes advantage of southern Alberta's excellent growing conditions and proximity to major markets. What truly distinguishes our community is our legacy of growth and expansion—we've established Rosedale Hutterite Colony in Etzikom, Castor Hutterite Colony in Coronation, and Deerfield Hutterite Colony in Magrath, demonstrating our commitment to continuing the Hutterite tradition of community building and agricultural excellence. Located in the heart of Alberta's agricultural region, we've embraced modern farming technology including GPS-guided systems and precision agriculture while maintaining the cooperative spirit, communal decision-making, and quality craftsmanship that have defined our community for nearly a century.
