About Kings Lake Farming
Kings Lake Farming (Kings Lake Hutterite Colony) is a rural farming community near Foremost, Alberta, in the heart of Southern Alberta’s dryland and irrigated agricultural region. The colony sits amid wide open prairie and rolling farmland, where multi‑generation farm families and colonies work the land and support the local economy around Foremost and the County of Forty Mile.
Egg farming is central to life at Kings Lake. The colony has been producing eggs since it was established in 1976, and today a third‑generation egg farmer manages the pullet and layer barns. Hens are kept in enriched housing systems, and the colony raises white Lohmann and Dekalb birds to produce standard white eggs, with a strong focus on animal care, good air quality, and providing safe, healthy, affordable eggs for Albertans.
Alongside its egg operation, Kings Lake maintains a herd of dairy cows and grows a variety of field crops, including wheat, barley, canola, peas, and lentils. This mix of livestock and grain production reflects the broader farming pattern of Southern Alberta, where colonies integrate animal agriculture with crop rotations to make efficient use of land and feed resources.
As with other Hutterite colonies, work at Kings Lake is organized communally: members share labour in the barns, fields, shops, and kitchens, while also emphasizing education, faith, and mutual support. The result is a closely knit farming community that takes pride in caring for its birds and animals, stewarding the land, and supplying consistent, high‑quality eggs, dairy, and crops to customers across the province.
