About this product

Fresh sweet corn has a clock on it from the moment it is picked. As soon as a cob leaves the stalk, the sugars in the kernel begin converting to starch and the sweetness that makes it worth eating starts to go with them. The faster it moves from the garden to the pot, the better the corn.

Summerland Colony picks their corn at peak sweetness and gets it to you while that window is still open.

Grown in the colony garden near Carmangay in Vulcan County, Alberta, Summerland Colony’s corn is available by the dozen for everyday buyers and in 20 lb bags for families, freezers, and colony kitchens that go through corn at volume during the season. Established in 2021 as a daughter colony of Clear Lake Colony, Summerland is building out fresh produce operations to serve nearby towns and customers across Alberta with the quality that a working Hutterite garden produces.

Two Sizes, Two Uses

Per Dozen
Twelve cobs of colony garden corn. The right size for a family dinner, a backyard barbecue, or a week of summer eating. Boiled, grilled, roasted in the husk, or stripped and added to salads and salsas. A dozen fresh cobs from a colony garden is one of those simple summer purchases that lands well every time.

20 lb Bag
For blanching and freezing. A 20 lb bag of fresh colony corn is a chest freezer investment. Blanch the cobs for three minutes in boiling water, cool in ice water, cut the kernels off the cob, bag and freeze. Colony corn frozen at peak season comes out of the freezer in January still sweet, still flavourful, and still the best corn you will eat all winter.

For families and operations that want a supply of genuinely good frozen corn through the winter without buying it commercially, this is the order to place during harvest season.
