Fresh Beets

A fresh beet from a colony garden has a sweetness and density that a store-bought beet sitting under produce mist for a week simply cannot match. The colour is deeper. The flesh is firmer. The flavour is the one that keeps people coming back to beets after a long relationship with the pale, soft grocery store version.

Summerland Colony grows beets in their colony garden near Carmangay in Vulcan County, Alberta. Established in 2021 as a daughter colony of Clear Lake Colony, Summerland is building out its fresh produce operations to serve nearby towns and customers across Alberta. These beets are grown on open prairie land, harvested at the right time, and available direct through Hutterite Marketplace.

Two Sizes, Two Uses

1 lb Bag
The kitchen size. Fresh beets for roasting, steaming, slicing raw into salads, or adding to soups and grain bowls. Enough for a meal or two, perfect for buyers who want to keep colony-fresh beets in the kitchen without committing to a bulk order.

20 lb Bag
The serious size. For home canners and picklers who know that a batch of colony-grown pickled beets starts with the right root. For families and colony kitchens that go through beets regularly. For anyone who wants to fill the root cellar or the chest freezer with Alberta-grown beets at their seasonal best.
